PasteTrail is a clipboard history app for macOS. It saves clipboard history locally on your Mac so you can search, pin, and reuse copied content.

Please include your PasteTrail version and build number from Settings → About, your macOS version, what you expected, and what happened. Do not send passwords, tokens, or private clipboard contents. Share screenshots only after removing sensitive information.

How to use PasteTrail

Launch PasteTrail and copy some content in another app.
Open the Quick Panel using the menu bar icon or your configured global shortcut.
Search your history and double-click an item to copy it. The panel closes and returns you to the previous app.
Press Command-V in that app to paste. Copy-only is the default and works without additional permission.

Optional direct paste — Build 16 beta and later: Open Settings → General → Pasting, turn on “Paste directly after selection”, then choose “Enable Direct Paste”. If macOS directs you to Privacy & Security, allow the installed PasteTrail app there and return to Settings to check the permission status. Once authorized, Return or a double-click requests a paste into your previous app. If permission is unavailable or delivery is interrupted, press Command-V manually. Some destination apps or fields may not accept the shortcut.

Common questions

Why is an item missing?

Check your capture exclusions, history retention, and sensitive-content controls in Settings. Content excluded by these settings may not be saved or may expire.

How do I keep important items?

Pin or favorite items you want to keep. You can export and restore a JSON backup from Settings. Keep backup files private; JSON backups are not encrypted.

Does my history sync to other devices?

No. The current version stores history locally and does not provide iCloud or other multi-device synchronization.

启动应用后，在其他应用中复制内容。点击菜单栏图标或使用已配置的全局快捷键打开面板，搜索并双击历史记录。内容会复制到剪贴板，面板关闭并返回原应用；请自己按 ⌘V 粘贴。默认使用此复制后手动粘贴方式，无需额外权限。

可选直接粘贴（Build 16 测试版本及以后）：打开“设置 → 通用 → 粘贴”，开启“选中后直接粘贴”，再点击“启用直接粘贴”。如 macOS 引导至“隐私与安全性”，请在其中允许已安装的 PasteTrail，并返回设置确认授权状态。授权后，按回车或双击会尝试粘贴到之前使用的应用。未授权或操作中断时，仍可手动按 ⌘V；部分应用或输入框可能不接受此快捷键。

找不到记录时，请检查采集排除项、历史保留期限及敏感内容设置。常用项目可以置顶或收藏，也可以在设置中导出和恢复 JSON 备份。备份文件本身不加密，请妥善保管。当前版本不提供云同步。
